In a period of financial and economic turmoil there are growing concerns and awareness about the role, the tasks and the accountability of international financial institutions. In this view it is very important for technocratic actors such as the European Central Bank to be able to justify their own mission which is pivotal for the well being of the public at global level. In order to explain to the general public the main functions and activities of the European Central Bank, the Educational section of its websites presents the two Monetary Policy and Inflation games €CONOMIA – Monetary Policy Game and the Inflation Island game. €CONOMIA – Monetary Policy Game aims to keep the inflation rate below but close to 2% by taking interest rate decisions every quarter over a timeline of eight years. In the Inflation Island game players test the adverse effects of high inflation, hyperinflation or deflation on the economy, and thereby learn the importance and benefit of price stability.
