New and innovative tools and technologies are key to improving public policy making. This has been highlighted by the EU’s new research roadmap which analyses some of the most exciting tools currently available. By illustrating real life case studies, the roadmap shows how new tools and methodologies can help improve public policies and identify the research challenges policy makers are likely to face in the future.
There are some thought-provoking and inspiring examples highlighted in the roadmap such as how the UK government began publishing spend data to help improve public spending or how opinion mining software is being used by the US department of Fisheries to process thousands of comments about proposed legislation in just a matter of days.
The aim of the research roadmap is to create long-lasting interest and commitment to next generation policy making. As well as this it highlights what technology is available to policy makers and where technology might venture in the future.
