With the growing interconnectedness of society and speed of execution, government bodies are continuously confronted with the need for improvement in strategy development, policy design and decision making in and across complex, dynamic domains.

The Transatlantic Research on Policy Modeling Workshop aims to collect and share knowledge on sectorial and integrated modeling frameworks, as well as on best practice applications, for policy formulation and evaluation through the application of modeling techniques in the form of innovative ICT tools.

The effective use of ICT tools for governance and policy modeling is expected to improve the evidence base for supporting better policy-making. In particular, innovative ICT solutions can play an important role in order to create environments where models can take full account of the complexity of the society, be developed in an open and collaborative way, shared with other contributors, aggregated to other existing models, and complemented by immersive simulation of the policy impact in order to improve both the accountability and the effectiveness of policies.  In this, ICT can play an important role in order to create environments where models can take full account of the complexity of the society, be developed in an open and collaborative way, shared with other contributors, aggregated to other existing models, and complemented by immersive simulation of the policy impact in order to improve both the accountability and the effectiveness of policies. In this respect, a workshop bridging the gap between researchers on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean becomes crucial to effectively learn from respective experiences and develop more advanced models for policy formulation and evaluation.

The objective of the Transatlantic Research on Policy Modeling Workshop, organized by the Millennium Institute as part of the FP7 EU co-funded CROSSOVER Project, is to provide a common discussion ground for modelers, policy analysts and decision makers on the current state of modeling efforts and to inform decision-making on available tools and on critical policy decisions, ultimately also contributing strongly to the CROSSOVER Roadmap on Policy Modeling 2.0 available here: www.makingspeechestalk.com/crossover/.
